Censorship Of Social Media

During the last few  days  some  social  sites  were  blocked and  there was  a block  on  mass  SMS .

According  to  a report given  by  an  International Organization  “  Freedom  House “ , India was ranked 14 among 37  countries in the field of Internet freedom.

Comparing our  country with China ( ranked 34 ) , though we  are three decades back in economy , we  have  still  more freedom  of  speech  and  internet  freedom  than  China .

While countries  like USA , UK , Germany and  Australia  are  among  the top  of  the  list , countries  like  Mexico , Kenya  and Nigeria remain  below  us .

This modern theory of  freedom was started in  Europe .

The most  controversial subject in social media censorship  is the  censorship  of  terrorism  and  pornography .

At  the  first  attempt , some  sites  having  child  pornography were censored .

Sites  having relation with  terrorism and  having  illegal  contents  are  in  the  process of censorship  .It  is  intended  to  check violence.

If  one will  review the various chats ,emails ,blogs and  discussions  in  forums , worldwide  , It  may appear that there  must  be an online  restriction for  Indians  also.

It  may  be  legal  ,  but  not  realistic  or  possible .. The Supreme Court  also says  that there  should  not  be  any  restriction on  the criticism  about a wrong-doing of Government .

We  should  not  blame the  social  media for  every problem .
